Hey there! So it's been a while since I've last posted, but not for lack of work. I was trying to pump out a few images special for an internship application, and was building them all at the same time. Therefore, I didn't have a piece ready until they were all ready. But now I have a few! Yay!

I feel like these pieces are a good deal better than some of my older work, which brings up a problem with having a blog: I want to showcase my talent to potential employers and have a venue for them to see my most up to date work, but not to judge my current talent level on older works that would still be available. Right now, I'm inclined to keep the older work up. I'll just have to wait and see if that's a good decision. At any rate, here's some new character work!

only made him more emo.

Hello again. I know I have an unhealthy affinity for goblins, but I suppose there are worse afflictions to have. That said, more goblins!!!

I enjoy doing the quicker head sketches seen in previous posts, but I don't want to over-develop that skill without paying attention to the full figure. Maybe I'll oscillate between them? I'm not certain, but we'll find out together! More things to come: landscapes, set designs, full paintings and so on. See you again in a few days!

Asparagus or Ant Beast?

Well hello! Things have been going pretty well on the Art Front lately- should have some fun stuff I've been withholding for a while rather soon. But for the time being: Ant Beast!!!

I'm not sure if it's injured, or if pulsing goo is a normal bodily function.

Obviously I'm not being too precious with these creature head sketches- but I will post some more precious ghoulies before too long. What constitutes "too long" may be subjective though :3

Witchdoctors from the future

Well met! Today we have a couple quick character concepts. I didn't want to spend a ton of time rendering these out- just enough to get the ideas across.
The concept is that they are a clerical class in some futuristic setting where technology has degenerated a bit.

I've been posting a lot of character sketches, particularly heads, recently. But in the next week or so I'll trying posting up some environments, industrial designs and quick paintings. Heck, if there's something you want to see and I don't have an example yet, I'll make it. So please post comments or send me a line at chrisknightart@gmail.com if there is something in particular you'd like me to take a crack at.

Vampire sketchness

Greetings! Today it's a vampire. Though I do love my little green-skin creatures- goblins, orcs, trolls, etc. I have to get myself out of that safe zone from time to time, even when I'm painting for fun. So, an old-school vampire (as opposed to the delightsome vampires of today) seemed like a nice compromise.

Team Nosferatu eats Team Edward for breakfast.

Threshold Guard

This is a class project "book cover." We had to use concepts that we covered throughout the semester, so I chose Jungian archetypes- specifically the Threshold Guardian. I was looking at some Dan Dos Santos for composition ideas for books covers since, you know, he's a novel cover wizard.

Since we didn't have many restrictions, this came together rather quickly (from conception to completion aboot 3 days) and was a goat load of fun.

Hey, all! Sorry for the posting delay. This week it's a dwarf cleric! This is a response to another piece I did a while ago called "Curse." I plan on taking another pass at that one as well, so we'll see how they compliment each other. More than anything, this was me playing around with chiaroscuro on the figure. The process on this one was a little different than normal also. If I get enough people expressing interest in my process, I may start getting into that in the blog as well.

Feral Elf

Hey all! This week I present you with my rendition of an Elven Barbarian.

Many artists have cool monikers that make them more recognizable in the field. I've often flirted with this idea as the name "Chris Knight" is pretty common and shared by a few famous folks. This makes branding a hell of a lot more difficult. I've decided to, instead, brand the phrase "Chris Knight Art", but if I do go by a pseudonym, it is "Feral Elf." I'm not sure why I ended up using that, but it's catchy and gets the point across that I focus on High Fantasy artwork.

Well, I was working on this "Elf barbarian" piece for a few days before realizing that I was actually putting a face to Feral Elf. Anyway, this one was a real blast to work on and came together quickly (from conception to completion took about three days.)

This week it's a drawing of an orc. Not much to be said about this one. It was created as an idea for a mural to go up on a building, but didn't end up there. One of the advantages of having a blog is giving a final resting place to ideas that were aborted part way through. RIP orc head.

This is an exciting month: I have some time to devote exclusively to building up my portfolio. Why is that exciting? More art for you! By next week I shant be wanting for blog posts. See you then!

Wizards gone wild

Hey all!

In case it wasn't obvious to you already, Lord of the Rings is kind of a big deal to me. My dad would read the trilogy to me as bedtime stories when I was young, and the Hobbit was one of the first books I ever read. This week it's a tribute to one of the baddest beings in Middle Earth: Saruman the White. I'm a huge fan of the films and loved Christopher Lee as Saruman- who else could possibly be evil-looking enough to pull that role off?

Alien Attack!

Hey all! This week's piece is a bit of a departure from what I normally do nowadays. It's cartoony, it's sci-fi, it's about kids! Not too cohesive with the rest of my body of work, but that can be a good thing, right? Anyway, when I was a young boy I thought I was going to grow up to be a cartoonist, so maybe this is a result of that dream fighting its way out.

Jorts Wizard

This week it's a suspiciously hip looking wizard. The idea that I really wanted to play with was the sleeve design- it could have been on anything really. Apparently my mind defaults to wizards when the figure isn't the focus.

This one is a tad dated, but I'll be finishing a couple pieces in the next few days that should make up for that. Check back next week for something goblin related.

Ultimate Fighter Challenge

Hey all! This was my submission for The Art Order challenge "The Ultimate Fighter." The order was essentially to create the most badass human fighter. No monsters, no sidekicks, and minimal to no environment.

My first response was, "I don't have to waste any time developing some wicked environment- awesome!" I slowly realized the double-edged sword nature of the description and that, though all my efforts could be devoted to creating this badass guy, he had to speak "tough-guy" all on his own. Without a pile of beasties or bad guys for him to beat on, this was a difficult feat to accomplish. I did what I could and learned a good deal.

I'm still trying to figure out with what regularity I'll be updating, but it appears to me that posting on Sunday night might be viable for me to stick to. Sooo, check back again next Monday for more goodies and thanks so much for stopping by!
